Virtual Series

Launched in May 2020, this virtual series (14 episodes) featured refugee musicians and activists. With in-person venues closed, the series offered a platform for them to perform and fundraise as they navigated uncertain times. About the Event

Join 1 Journey this Friday with a screening on Leila Mire's current work!

Leila is a dancer, choreographer and educator working on re-setting her 2017 piece "Laawhee." Her artistic focus includes cultural dance and its intersection with politics and gender. In this never-before-seen event, Leila walks us through her creative process, demonstrates with clips of both the original production of Laawhee and new rehearsals, and teaches the history and importance of one of the world's most popular folk dances: debke!

Leila is partnering with the Tennessee Children's Dance Ensemble to reset Laawhee. If you are able to give, we encourage you to donate to this excellent dance institution. TCDE is currently struggling to make ends meet during the COVID-19 pandemic. https://www.dancersstudioknox.com/support
