About the Event

One Journey Festival with Hussein Smko and Project TAG is pleased to preview an original short documentary.

Project TAG is directed by Hussein Smko, an NYC-based dancer and artist from the Kurdistan region of Iraq. The company operates at the intersection of dance, theater and performance while exploring themes of religion, politics and war as a lived experience. Project TAG seeks to challenge cultural stereotypes and advocate for international unity. Project TAG's theater piece was set to premiere as a fundraising initiative at the LaGuardia Performing Arts Center in March 2020 before the COVID-19 pandemic halted all immediate plans. Since then, Hussein has sought alternative fundraising options to raise money for the company's three week tour to Kurdistan and accompanying documentary film. He anticipates a theater premiere in 2021.

Hussein made his DC debut at the 2019 One Journey Festival, where he performed original choreography. He is a member of Battery Dance, and was the first recipient of its Adel Euro Campaign for Dancers Seeking Refuge.

If you are able to give, we encourage you to donate to Project TAG to support its mission, its film, and its dancers -- an initiative three years in the making: paypal.me/Husseins93
